On December 13, 2023 the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a notice, extending the periods to re-register for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under the existing designations of El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan. This notice is consistent with earlier announcements, changing the re-registration period for each country from 60 days to the full length of each country’s TPS designation extension.
In practice, this means that immigrants from these countries can continue to register for TPS according to the following timelines:
El Salvador – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through March 9, 2025
Haiti – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through August 3, 2024
Honduras – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through July 5, 2025
Nepal – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through June 24, 2025
Nicaragua – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through July 5, 2025
Sudan – Qualifying immigrants can re-register through April 19, 2025
Extending re-registration allows immigrants who qualify for TPS to re-register at any time within the windows mentioned above for each country, and also allows immigrants to apply for a work permit during the same time period.
If you have had TPS in the past and are interested in re-registering so that you can remain in the U.S. legally and obtain or renew your work authorization, the attorneys at Bennett & Harker can help. Please contact us for more information.
